It is more about the author’s struggles and doubts about his ability to be a writer, his inclination to be a doctor, and the conflicts of his feelings for his wife and child and his mistress. The author, Hans Keilson, is a German of Jewish faith. He is in hiding in Delft. My brother and sisters and me – on a visit to my brother stationed at Fort Devens in Fitchburg Mass
another wartime photo – my brother on a visit home (I am peeking out the window) This might have been the weekend which stirs a vivid memory of coming home from church on a Sunday morning and unexpectently seeing my brother at the top of the street. A Tribute To A World War II Soldier March 30, 2017
In researching my genealogy I’ve come across a record of a very distant relation who served in the Air Force in World War II. Maybe he isn’t related at all, the connection is pretty tenuous, but all the same I feel especially moved and want to acknowledge his service and sacrifice. He was PVT Sage Harden Upshaw, born in 1912 in Georgia, died on June 3, 1944 in England. Just before D-Day on June 6, 1944. He is buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery in Cambridge England. He was the son of William Upshaw who married my father’s sister, Myrtle. Sage was a son by a previous marriage.
Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence January 12, 2016
I along with millions of others feel saddened by the death of David Bowie. A rare talent. When I first heard the news, I thought of the film Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence. Not a film I saw – too painful a subject. But I have read the Laurens Van Der Post books on which the film was based. Now I have learned so much more about this multi-talented rock icon.
