Ready for burial – I suspect this is a rat – the cat’s latest treasure.
I pulled the bedroom curtain aside early this morning and sure enough there was the cat on the mat………but instead of stretching and reaching up to get in, the cat’s back was to me and she appeared to be eating/chewing on something. A telltale tail was seen – thin, black. O.K. she had a mouse – and she was busy. No wish to come in. I was a bit dismayed but at least the poor creature being devoured was not a bird.
I went upstairs and went out on the back deck and down the outside stairs to spy on the cat and its creature. THEY WEREN”T THERE. Nor did they appear anywhere nearby. Two hours later the cat appeared – alone – wanting her breakfast.

I’m contemplating adding to my collection of interesting ceramics. Here is a ceramic of the head of an Onyx Gazelle.
a little bear
and a little dog
Just 2 small hand carved wooden animals. I particularly like the grain of the wood in the little bear. Simple objects which I have on my desk. (Part of the clutter to the despair of my sons!)

This morning I caught a glimpse of a raccoon running across my neighbor’s back yard and disappearing into some “things” piled up near his garage. The raccoon was bigger than a fat cat.
That’s the excitement so far this morning in the view from my seat at my computer. It topped the sight of 2 flickers and several finches on my deck railing.
My Socklady friend Lynne lives in the Far North (Northern British Columbia) – this beautiful fox is a regular visitor to her back yard. I would love this view from my kitchen window!
And for comparison, from The Naturalist’s Notebook on Facebook, here’s a fox in the sand on Cape Cod
