Beauty In Weathered Gravestones July 29, 2017

Zachariah Walker  Gravestone for Zechariah Walker, South Cemetery, Woodbury, Lichfield County, Connecticut

Zechariah Walker was my 8th Great Grandfather.  He was born in Boston in 1637, died in 1699, in Woodbury Connecticut at age 63.

His parents were born in England and married in Boston in 1635.  His mother came to America in 1630.  She lived first in Salem.  I haven’t been able to determine when his father immigrated to America.

I like the way this gravestone has weathered – beautiful.

fox-in-bc-snow-l-rettberg  My Socklady friend Lynne lives in the Far North (Northern British Columbia) – this beautiful fox is a regular visitor to her back yard.  I would love this view from my kitchen window!

And for comparison, from The Naturalist’s Notebook on Facebook, here’s a fox in the sand on Cape Cod

I was delighted to see one on my deck this morning.  And yesterday I saw several flying about.  They had been missing for a while.

Gravestone Moss May 21, 2016

gravestone moss john priest  I’m not sure how you could identify this gravestone in Lancaster Massachusetts as marking the burial place for John Priest, my 7X Great Grandfather.  The grave marker dates from the early 1700’s.  Think of the weathering due to 300 years of New England seasons.  There is a certain visual and symbolic beauty to the stone.

The River Shannon March 26, 2015

We saw the most amazing Nature program on KCTS9 last night.  The photography was absolutely amazing.  A gentle hushed approach to the River Shannon in all 4 seasons.  Made us think of David Cabot and Bill Oddie and the most famous of all Richard Attenborough.
