Aaron Osgood discovered on Ancestry     Aaron Osgood is a distant ancestor on my mother’s side.  He lived in the Boston area from 1786 to 1825.  What interested me particularly was the possible meaning of his surname.  According to the Dictionary of American Family Names – Osgood is from the Old Norse personal name Asgautr, composed of the elements as ‘god’ + the tribal name Gaut.  This was established in England before the Norman Conquestin the late Old English forms Osgot or Osgod.  It was later reinforced by the Norman Ansgot.
