Update On My Knitting February 25, 2017

   I am knitting a brown sweater, sort of making it up as I go along.  I like the color and the wool – Rauma Strikkegarn (www.raumaull.no) – Norwegian of course.  I have knit the front and the back and both sleeves.  Now i’m in the process of joining the 2nd sleeve to the body of the sweater.  This is somewhat difficult to make a smooth seam.  Next will be to complete the upper part of the sweater.  I’m thinking of doing a simple pattern.

   this is a sweater which I knit from the top down following instructions in an old knitting book published in Norway in 1975.  The simple design using the contrasting colors is mine.

  A more elaborate pattern – my first “Norwegian” sweater, knit in 1970’s.

Colorful Birds February 23, 2017

  A bird like this has been perched on a branch next door for about 5 minutes. I wonder if it’s a house finch.   A relatively plain finch has stayed steadfastly nearby.  I wonder if they are “friends”.   Sometimes I wish I had a telephoto lens.

Just 2 small hand carved wooden animals.  I particularly like the grain of the wood in the little bear.  Simple objects which I have on my desk.  (Part of the clutter to the despair of my sons!)

Carnage At The Front Door

  I opened the front door and found lots of feathers but no carcass – I think (hope) the unfortunate bird got away unscathed.

A Raccoon Ran……. February 19, 2017

This morning I caught a glimpse of a raccoon running across my neighbor’s back yard and disappearing into some “things” piled up near his garage.  The raccoon was bigger than a fat cat.

That’s the excitement so far this morning in the view from my seat at my computer.  It topped the sight of 2 flickers and several finches on my deck railing.

Making memories

We are rounding up our calorie-burning Comeragh hike. Before we are done, I want to share this post about a small but very important part of Comeragh Mountains –  Cannon Hill,  one of beloved places  of Clonmel people  ( I have already written about Carey Castle, St. Patrick’s Well and some other local favorites).

We take the left turn up a narrow road just before the Carey Castle sign, and start our walk along the side of Cannon Hill. There are two roads, the upper one is wider, and there is a nice space for parking. A couple of years ago I came here to assess the old farmhouse ruins for a photo session. I had only one hour, but there was the man with his dogs, and he started a conversation that lasted 40 minutes 🙂 He introduced himself as Richard, and it came out he is a father-in-law of my former colleague…
